A Note From Mom

While Josh and I are at home for a couple days, Mom and Dad are doing a great job with Rachel, nurses and doctors. Here is what mom wrote:

We must pray for Rachel's secretions from throat area to BE GONE....these secretions keep her in ICU because they just complicate things. We need to pray too, for her swallowing. The swallow test person came by and gave the test.....Rachel does swallow, a little bit did down her trachea (to her lungs) vs. her esophagus (to her stomach) though the majority did go down her esophagus.....those are the two prayer concerns for Rachel at the moment -secretion to be gone and swallowing correctly. The more she practices swallowing her saliva, moving her lips and tongue, the better it will be for swallowing food and begin talking.

The physical therapist sat her up in a chair.....they were going to take her for a stroll but she had a coughing fit and her heart rate did not come down soon enough for the nurse to feel confident about the stroll. I asked Rachel if she thought she could do more than what they were doing with her and she nodded yes. So, we can pray that more is done with her. The more she moves, the better, of course.

It would be great if more people would comment so I can pass those comments on to Rachel....they can tell how they heard Rachel's story, how they are praying, or how Rachel's story has affected them. We encourage comments!

-Crystal

More to come later, I am working on a post of 'details' for those of you who want more specifics :-)

Hi Rachel!

I haven't left a comment on your blog site for a while. We love you no matter what and pray for your speedy recovery! Mom and I eagerly await hearing each inch of progress.... sometimes checking the blogsite up to 10 times a day. (Even though we know it's usually only updated once per day!)

I once read a neat quote:
"Expect the best,
Prepare for the worst,
and let God take care of the rest."

Many of my friends from CEF of Nebraska are praying for you....most of them have not even met you! Isn't that cool and amazing?

I'm not able to come visit this weekend, but hopefully soon...

Love your future sister-in-law,

Anna Banana

Hi Rachel! My name is Judith Hodge, Rolla, MO and we are very good friends of your Wiechmann grandparents. Grandma Kay emailed me and gave me your website which I have been reading daily. I am praying for you and your family that God will heal you completely. We thank Him for what He has done so far and know He will continue to be with you and bless you. We love you through our Lord and trust Him for your every need. God Bless!

Hi Rachel & family--I have been reading your updates every day. It is good to know how to pray specifically just as in the note from your mom today. I know many people who are praying for you. I'm glad you have so many people to keep you company at the hospital. I will be praying for them too. Vicki Sherman

Hey Rachel,
You may not remember us (the Osborne's) from summit. Dad spoke usually for one session each year. Anyway, we are praying for you. Our church is praying for you, and hundreds of other people from both the Awana Forums, and The Rebelution Forums. Hang in there!

Praying,
Daniel Osborne

Hey Rachel, Eric and I are keeping in touch with Ryan and Loretta Ensor about your recovery and know that we are praying for you. I learned of the blog from Megan Howe... it's a great idea. So many people care for you. Can't wait to hear an update. With prayers, Tammy Walters and Eric Blobaum (Auburn, NE)

Hi, Rachel! I'm Brianne Thompson (formerly Brianne Clark) and I knew you when I was just a little squirt. My sister, parents, friends, and husband have been praying for you since day one. I just wanted to say that God is really using you for His glory. Faith has been strengthened, praise has been proclaimed, and lives have been changed. Be encouraged that none of this is in vain. The Lord is using you as a mighty tool. (And in the name of Jesus I claim your speedy recovery. Amen.) :)

This is Laura and I check your page and do pray. Our homeschoolers and church are praying also. Your site is a blessing. We can get updates without constantly bothering your family. It gives us greater direction to pray.

Hello!
Just thought I'd chime in and let you know that our Bible study in Melbourne met last night and spent awhile praying for Rachel and the families involved! We were looking into Romans 8: 28-39 last night and had the great reminder that "We are more than conquerors through him who loved us." And that nothing can separate us from the love of God. I know there are times life doesn't make sense, but at least we can always know that we are grasped in God's loving arms.
God Bless you all,
~Gretchen McMichael

hey Rachel you are amazing. I shared your story with some co-workers and they to are praying along with my school (SLCC). I know God has given you strength--you have always been blessed with strength.....remember carrying me down Mt. Summit on 4th of July. Keep looking to God and renewing the strength.

I am praying and will continue to do so......I pray for endurance, health, trust, faith and encouragement.
Love Kerri Pollard
