Yeah, It's Saturday!

Rachel always looks forward to Saturdays. They work her hard here through the week, and on Saturdays and Sundays, she only has a couple therapies. She is resting today and getting ready for another tough week. Josh and I are here for the weekend and impressed with her continued progress.

On Friday (yesterday) Rachel walked 100 feet with only one person assisting and no rest breaks. Then she walked over to the stairs and climbed up and down 4 stairs. Go girl! Her goal that was set when Rachel got to Madonna was to walk 10 feet with 2 people assisting her. This 100 feet was accomplished at the end of a day at the end of a long week.

Thursday, Speech Therapy, okayed Rachel for level 3 foods and straight water (she's been on level 2 with thickened liquids). Now she can have breads and ground meat. Level 2 was no breads and all soft foods that aren't sticky (like peanut butter).

SOOooo.... this means Rachel's PEG tube came out Thursday afternoon!!! Rachel is one 'happy camper'. She was more than ready to have that tube out of her stomach, it was always getting in the way of her clothes, therapies, and constantly sore. Rachel laughs, because it looks like she has two belly buttons :-)

It sounds like Rachel's treadmill therapist doesn't want to work with Rachel on the treadmill because of the shaking in her leg. So she will be taking the week off from the treadmill.

Rachel specifically is asking for prayer for this shaking that occurs when her ankle is quickly reflexed, mostly in walking. The shaking hinders her walking ability. (and for her knees that wants to lock when she stands or walks).

Check back in a couple hours and I'll be posting a picture.

Dear Rachel (and family),
I praise God that you are making such progress, and I honor you and your family and healing team for all your hard work. But I am also sure that the limitations that still exist are very frustrating. I was walking to the cell tower after reading of your week, thinking how I take for granted the ability to walk, talk, feed myself, etc. and knowing that there are many who no longer can do those things with the ease I do now.
Then I thought of Jesus and the limitations He willingly imposed on Himself for my sake-and yours(Phil 2) and was amazed afresh at the mystery of incarnation. I pray that will be brought home to you in a special way because of your circumstances, and that His identification with you in your limitations will help you to endure. You are sharing in the fellowship of His sufferings, "carrying about in your body the dying of Jesus that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in your body."(2Cor 4:10)And it definitely is.
We here at His Mansion continue to pray, and now will do so more specifically as you have suggested.
In His love,
Diane H.

Hey Rachel,
Congratulations on the PEG tube coming out! That is wonderful! I am praying for your leg. Praise the Lord for His faithfulness to you in your continued progress. This week I read in Psalm 47 these verses. "Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise. God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne." I was struck that the reason for praising God was simply because of His awesomeness, not because of what He does for us, but simply because He is so great. I rejoice in God's greatness, and I rejoice that I can see it in how He is working in your body, Rachel! Keep pressing on!

Dear Rachel,

Read this verse and thought of you and Ryan's trial ... and made me ashamed that so often when I find myself in much "lighter suffering" I fail in this. May His Word strengthen you two!

1 Peter 4:19
"So if you are suffering according to God's will, keep on doing what is right, and trust yourself to the God who made you, for he will never fail you."

I'm fervently continuing to pray that He who made you will fully restore your body to beyond where it was before this all happened. Whatever he chooses to do, I'm praying He continues to give you grace.

Love you girl! And love you too Ryan!

Hi Rachel...It was good to see you Thursday, standing up, making a peanut butter sandwich, talking, etc. It is a big deal to come from where you were to where you are and gives us all great hope and confidence that the good work He (God) has begun in you will be perfected as you keep working. We love you Rachel and pray for you from the bottom of our heart. You will beat this. Love Grandma for Grandpa too.
